Do schools kill creativity?

As a student at OCAD, the University of the Imagination, I wouldn’t think so here. But creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson says that we are “educating people out of their creativity” and explains why on many levels.

In his both funny and critical TEDTalk, Robinson makes interesting points about creating an education system that nurtures, instead of undermines, creativity. Watch the video below (or click here to see it on YouTube).

Think about this: If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you can’t come up with anything new. Because we start off as children being taught not to make mistakes, we’re essentially taught out of creativity. This is what Robinson is talking about changing.

Daniel, this was an excellent video & one I've shared with other educators. It certainly gives people something to think about!!

I believe that it is true that many children are tragically denied the nurturing of creativity. If you look at innovation vs linear progression you will find the creative influence. One must be allowed to be creative in order to evolve. To suppress creativity is like cutting of the arms and legs. To do it unknowingly is tragic. To do it deliberately is a horrific crime.
